Monday Morning Blues

I frequently will ask people I meet (the waitress, delivery person, bank teller, etc.) how their day is going.  I get a wide range of answers and I always find it interesting when people’s perception is based on things like the day of the week, the traffic (that they are no longer in) or the weather.

When you allow your life to be dictated by perceptions or feelings, you are cheating yourself.  Studies have shown that more heart attacks happen on Monday mornings than any other time of the week. But there is nothing about Monday’s that make them unhealthy.  In fact, “Monday” does not really exist, anymore than Wednesday or Saturday.  We just make up these names and assign them to a particular block of time.  And just like we make up the day of the week, we make up how we feel about it.  There is nothing special about Friday, but people tend to feel happier about it than Monday.  Why? Because they choose to.

How you feel is a choice.  How you respond to something that someone said or something that happened is a choice.  

What if you went about your day knowing that at anytime, good feelings are available to you.  Joy, peace of mind, excitement and anything else you want to feel, you can at any time.

What I want you to recognize is how powerful you are.  I want you to know what’s in your reach to access on a daily – even a moment by moment – basis.

Take Monday -or whatever your least favorite day is – and put a new spin on it.  You can also do this with any situation that you have to face that is difficult or uncomfortable.  Decide in advance to feel good or even great while you’re going through it.  It’s a choice and you have total power over your choices.
