From time to time you’ll hear me talk about having a “Spiritual Practice”
I wanted to spend a moment with you today talking a little further about that.
When I speak of a Spiritual Practice, I’m not speaking of anything related to religion, thought I’m not excluding that either.
To put it simply, I think it’s important for everyone to feel connected to something that’s greater than themselves. Something that’s not man-made or man-influenced. What that looks like is for the individual. But here’s why I think it’s important; when you are connected to something greater than yourself, there is a calm, insight, joy, peace, clarity and direction that comes with a spiritual practice greater than anything one could experience on their own.
Of course, along with such a practice comes the responsibility to nurture it, grow it and allow it to operate as a part of your life. My experience has been that (as long as it’s not steeped in dogma, exclusion or rigidity) such a practice helps to create a truly rewarding life.
My spiritual practice is the heartbeat of my life.
Today, I’m going to give four easy to use self-hypnosis tools.
Let me start by giving you a very quick and easy understanding of what hypnosis is – it’s simply a matter of giving instructions to your sub-conscious mind. The subconscious mind is receiving instructions from you all of the time but when under hypnosis, you are able to speak directly to the subconscious. This allows the instructions to be incorporated deeper and faster.
There are a variety of ways you can do this:
Your life is run by the instructions in your subconscious mind. If you want change in your life, you need to give the subconscious the instructions you expect it to operate from. The more you expose your mind to an idea, feeling or belief, the deeper it goes. This is how you program your subconscious mind.
AFFIRMATION: The power to transform my life is a wonderful gift that I appreciate and use.Continue reading
One thing I’ve learned about people who are most successful is that they have things in their life they insist upon. Things that they must do on a consistent basis.
Things that are not negotiable.
So here’s the big question – What’s non-negotiable in your life?
What are the things that you must do every day or week or month?
It could be reading something inspirational, spending time with family, attending a spiritual center, or donating to a charity.
What takes the highest priority in your life?
Is it regular exercise, daily affirmations, volunteering, meditation, journaling, prayer?
What’s non-negotiable for you?
When you build your life around a set of standard practices that must take place, you build your life on a solid bedrock that will support and sustain your success.
____________________ (fill in the blank) is non-negotiable for me.
Look around at your life. What are you accepting or allowing that you could do something about but you are not.
Are you accepting a relationship that is not good for you?
How about a job that you can’t stand?
Could your health and fitness be better or are you just accepting it?
Have you decided that things are just going to be a certain way because you:
While there may always be some things that you’ll decide to be OK with, I want to challenge you to do something about the things you are not.
Look at your life and pick just 1 thing – something that if it were different, would really improve the quality of your life.
Next – decide that “this will change”.
Finally, start taking action that will move you in the direction of change.
There’s an expression: “If the vision you have for your life does not scare you, it’s not big enough”!
Here’s the deal, if your vision does not present challenges to you – challenges that are bigger than you – you won’t be pushed to stretch outside of your comfort zone. You may not even do your best because its easier just to coast.
If your vision isn’t big enough you won’t look for help.
You won’t tap into the tremendous idea-sphere that exists all around you.
You won’t tap into your Higher Self.
If you are starting to feel like your vision may not be big enough great! This is your invitation to uplevel your vision. This is your challenge to think bigger and reach higher.
Sometimes kids are scared or frustrated because they think they can go no further. And as adults, we can see the bigger picture; we know they can do it, they just don’t know it yet.
That still holds true when we become adults, you may be are afraid that something is too big for you so you play small. The reality is, there is an immense Universe not only ready to support you and back your cause, but cheering you on wanting you to succeed.
So, how big is your vision?
Make it bigger!
AFFIRMATION: I have a big vision for my life, and the Universe has my back.Continue reading
Check in with yourself
I heard a startling statistic the other day.
The average user checks their phone between 110 and 150 times per day – WOW!
I heard this from one of my teachers, Michael Beckwith. He went on to say suppose we checked in with ourselves that many times a day. For me, that was another WOW!
So here’s my challenge to you: See how many times a day you can check in and see where you are in terms of your thoughts.
Where are you in terms of taking care of your body? How could you improve?
Where are you when it comes to how you are treating others? What could you do better?
How are you feeling about your life, why are you feeling that way? Do you need to change or perhaps enhance your feelings?
The more you connect with and remain aware of what’s going on with you, the more you will create the outcomes you desire for your life.
AFFIRMATION: I stay checked in, I stay connected, I stay present.Continue reading
“Ooooo, I’m gonna telllll”
If you grew up with siblings you no doubt heard that expression and probably even said it yourself. And it usually meant that someone was going to be in trouble. Today, I want to invite you to tell on somebody . . . yourself.
I want you to look in the mirror, and tell all of your secrets. Those things that you feel and believe about yourself, that you know are holding you back. Maybe it’s something you know you should change. Maybe it’s a regret that you’re holding onto. Perhaps it’s some unforgiveness that you’re harboring.
I want you to tell it, forgive yourself and release it. If there are loose ends tied to it, work on the loose ends but let go of the story. Relieve yourself of the burden of the feelings.
With that out of the way, I want you to fill that space by telling yourself all the good and wonderful about you
Praise yourself, brag about yourself, love yourself. And all of this praise and love and good stuff, that’s something you can do everyday.
Ooooh, I got some good stuff to tell you!Continue reading
Here’s another tip on using affirmations:
When writing affirmations, you want to make sure that you are in a positive, upbeat frame of mind. This is very important because the state of mind that you are in at the time of writing will be transferred to the affirmation itself. When you repeat that affirmation in the future, your subconscious will remember what state you were in when you originally wrote it and that can cause interference with the outcome you desire.
So you want to avoid writing affirmations when you are feeling desperate, anxious, angry or even lonely or tired.
Instead, you want to feel energetic, at peace and joyful when you write your affirmations.

In spirituality, there is this concept of a “still, small voice”. I’ve always understood it to mean that inner voice of God/Spirit/Higher Self. That voice that you can hear guiding you when you allow your mind to get quiet, when you stop to pay attention to your intuition. Yea, that voice.
But I’ve noticed in my life that I have a problem with that voice. My problem is that it is too often drowned out by a big, loud, active voice. The voice of old thoughts, habits, fears, regrets. The voice that tells me it’s OK to be a little lazy (when I should be working) – the voice that says, “you can’t do that” . . . “you remember what happened last time?” . . . the voice that says “that challenge is too hard right now, let’s be disciplined when we get stronger”. . . Yea, that voice.
One day I realized that my problem was my two “voices” have their roles reversed . . . and it was my own fault. But I decided it was time for my “still, small voice” to be still and small no longer. By the power and authority vested in me I flipped the script. It’s time, I told myself, for the voice formerly known as still and small to take over and guide me, inform me, inspire me and uplift me in big, bold powerful tones.
I invite you to turn up the volume on Spirit in your life. When you do you will find that you see more clearly, think more sharply, act more deliberately, receive more greatly, believe more deeply and walk more boldly. All of this in a consciousness greater than ever before.
But what about that other voice – the one that is dominant for most people?
Just as you make the choice to turn up the volume on the no longer still and small voice, you can make the same deliberate choice to turn down the volume of the other. You can make a conscious decision to stop paying attention and giving power to the voice -the ideas, the beliefs, the habits, the fears – that no longer serve you.
You have the ability and the authority to choose the guidance that you will follow in your life. Make that choice today.Continue reading
