A lesson from “The Millionaire”

A valuable lesson I learned from a character on one of the silliest shows on television.

In the famed 1960’s TV show Gilligan’s Island, one of the standout characters was Thurston Howell III – a.k.a. “The millionaire”, played by legendary actor Jim Backus. What I found intriguing about that character was that even though he was stranded on a deserted island and separated from his millions, he never stopped seeing himself as a millionaire. He still walked like a millionaire, he talked like a millionaire and expected to be treated the way he had always been treated – like a millionaire.

Each of us has that same ability; the ability to think, feel and believe whatever we want to about ourselves and our lives. Most people stop short if there does not appear to be any proof or reality to support what they believe in. . . but that’s one of the biggest mistakes a you can make.
To believe without proof or evidence (also known as “having faith”) may seem like dreaming, fantasizing or just imagining to some people. Yet, let’s not forget that “reality” starts with what we imagine. Everything that was ever created first began as a thought, a dream or a desire. Everything.

The dreaming does not make it so. Visualizing or even affirmations do not make it so. But these are just a few of many powerful tools that help us get on the path, open the doors and dance with the opportunities that show up when we use them. But you have to first believe it.

There’s an old expression; “I’ll believe it when I see it”. Many teachers will tell you you have to believe it first and then you’ll see it. That’s true, but, I’ve added another layer to that. See it, then believe it, and then you’ll see it. Here’s what I mean; the first step is to see it, but not with your eyes. See it in the place where reality is formed – your imagination. Feel it, taste it, touch it in the factory of creation. See it, experience it, believe it and hold on to it for as long as need be. Until, like Thurston Howell III, your circumstances change, keep holding on to your truth, even if you have no proof.

What will start to happen is that you’ll start taking different actions. You’ll meet the people, get connected with the information and experience the opportunities that will lead you to what you desire. Eventually, you’ll have the experience of watching it being birthed in your reality.
